Designed by Patricia MacMullin, N. Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada in 1989to mark the century since the incorporation of Antigonish in 1889. 'Green the meadows sweeping down from spruce-clad hills; blue of sky and sea; grey the roads that lead to town; black the bear with broken limb of beechnut tree.' - 1989 — Antigonish (District) (tartans-authority, record)
Designed by Patricia MacMullin, N. Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada. 1989 The colours (from John Fitzpatrick's July 2008 review of Canadian tartans) represent the following: Black appears fainlty to represent the black bear in the MicMac word Antigonish. The green is for agriculture and forestry, blue and white for the colours of St. Francis Xavier University and blue and grey represent the fishermen and the changing moods of the ocean. The three crossing grey lines are symbolic of the sic main roads entering the town and of the six counties in Nova Scotia that relyon Antigonish as a service centre.
