    The Stephen F Austin (SFA) State University tartan was created by fashion merchandising student Kelcie Brown to represent the university and its traditions. The university opened in 1923 in Nacogdoches, Texas, and is named for Stephen Austin, the “Father” of Texas. The design uses the SFA colours of purple and white with accents of grey and black to represent the university’s “Purple Pride!”.
