Designed for Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan, this tartan is on a deep purple base as this is considered to be one of the noblest colours and is used by the University to instill the highest levels of ambition and achievement in their students. - May 2009 — Meiji Rugby 1923 (Corporate) (tartans-authority, record)
Designed by Lochcarron of Scotland for Meiji University in Tokyo which was founded in 1881. The deep purple used as the ground colour is regarded as one of the most noble of colours and is used by the University to instill the highest levels of ambition and achievement amongst its students. In the woven sample the purple and dark blue are so close as to be almost indistinguishable.
