Earliest known date: pre 1800 An "Old superfine tartan sett" from Wilson's Key pattern book. Possibly a Fencibles tartan. Fencibles were a kind of Home Guard formed at the time of the Napoleonic Invasion threat. It is generally accepted as a district tartan and known to have existed as early as 1797.
