Masai

Type: Artefact

The Maasai world: the checked shuka cloths of the Maasai of Kenya and northern Tanzania — a living tradition where the tartan check's grammar met a far older red-ochre colour culture and produced its own new setts. Holds the Last of the Masai group (the STA's 29 artefact readings from the 1995 Camerapix photo book) and, directly, the registered designs the shuka has inspired.
